Tea Bag Toppers

Today is the big day...Prince William and Kate Middleton's Wedding! I woke up at 5AM to watch the action live in London, and I am so, so, so happy I did!  What a gorgeous dress! Incredible hats! Loved it! In true English style I had my coffee in a British Flag Mug, and purchased a cheese scone from my favorite coffee shop!  Later in the morning as I was googling "royal wedding crafts"  I came upon these tea bag toppers! How cute and festive are these! Just print out a picture from your home computer, and staple on to a tea bag! You could do this for any occasion, with any picture, logo, etc! Happy Friday! xoxo, Julie

Sarah Frost - Arsenal

Hi everyone, today first interview of new season of the blog! With Sarah Frost, related to her installation shown at the PPOW gallery in New York, April 14-May 14: http://www.ppowgallery.com/

    - Can you tell us something about yourself?
I started out as a painter and now work in sculpture and installation. I'm interested in cast-off objects that show their history and evidence of use. I want to explore what these objects say about their users as individuals and part of a culture.

    - Can you explain us the concept behind the work "Arsenal"?
I recently discovered and focused my attention on a community of boys who self-publish instructional YouTube videos for making paper guns. Learning this craft, I have amassed a comprehensive arsenal - from handguns to elaborate Halo-inspired assault rifles - to create a monumental installation. In its variety of form and configuration, including suspended objects, floor works, ammunition piles and other accessories, Arsenal reveals the intensity of the boys’ pursuit, my curiosity about it and my obsessive fascination with object-making.

    - How do you create this?
I found forms in this Youtube community and re-created them, using paper, tape and glue; the forms are suspended from the ceiling using monofilament.

    - What is for you the role of Art in our society?
That is a big question! "Our society" is not a singular thing by any means. I do think art finds itself in many roles - to inspire, to console, to make us feel, to make us feel part of something greater or to make us think are a few.

Easter Smores

What better way to celebrate Easter than with Peeps, right?  Well I found this recipe that takes eating Peeps to the next level...Peep Smores!!! Love It! I found the cute idea (baking smores in the oven) on the Creative Holiday Gift Ideas blog and couldn't wait to share with you all! How cute is the packaging! I'm giving this as an Easter gift to my family members! And, I'm definitely doing old fashioned smores with peeps on the beach this weekend! Here is a little back ground on smores from Wikipedia: S'more appears to be a contraction of the phrase, "some more". While the origin of the dessert is unclear, the first recorded version of the recipe can be found in the publication "Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts" of 1927.
    Happy Tuesday! xoxo, Julie

Tulle Netting

I love Tulle Netting Ribbon-Sized Rolls! I use it on so many things! Just about everything really! It is inexpensive ($3-$5 a roll at craft stores), and looks good with a gazillion things. From the most beautiful fairy-tale dress to the simplest bow on a gift, Tulle really is a dream fabric. It comes in all colors and I especially love the glitter rolls! Oh, and a little history on it: The name comes from Tulle, a city in the southern central region of France. Tulle was well known as a center of lace and silk production in the 18th century, and early tulle netting probably originated in this French city. Tulle netting certainly appeared earlier in Parisian ballet costume than in most other nations, suggesting that tulle netting may have been more readily available there than elsewhere. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tulle_netting  Happy Friday! xoxo, Julie

Cute Easter Backyard

In preparation for Easter next Sunday, I found a couple cute ides to spice up your backyard for the Easter Bunny Egg Hunt! I really love those colored paper lanterns, the container of lemonade on some Easter grass on a cake stand, and the Easter themed wrappers around the water bottles! The egg cookies on a stick in the garden centerpiece is an adorable idea!  Happy Wednesday! xoxo, Julie

Candyland Themed Party

Last month I was asked to assist in the planning of a Silent Auction benefiting a children's charity, and I was more than happy to say yes!  The item donation requests, physical layout, and minute-by-minute agenda is the important part of a silent auction set-up, but the fun part is the decorating! I came up with a theme, 'Candyland', as I find it much easier to decorate when you have a specific direction!  The collaboration of pictures (found from doing many Google searches of key words like candyland, etc.) below is the direction I went, and I love how simple most of this stuff really is to make with a little poster board, paint, glitter, balloons and clear wrap! Also, after I originally posted this, my friend Chrissy pointed me to a website of two event planners she used for shower invites once, who threw a super cute Candyland Game themed party you can find here: http://nicoandlala.blogspot.com/2010/08/cates-candyland-extravaganza.html
    Happy Tuesday! xoxo, Julie
