Ione Rucquoi - Art to get emotional response

    Hi, everyone!
Today artist is Ione Rucquoi. I think you have heard about him, since he has been recently quoted in some photograph and art magazine!
So, here it is the interview for "Who Speaks for Art?" :-)

    - Can you tell us something about yourself?
I have the most amazing view from my bedroom window. I collect hats, china, and curios from actions, markets and junk shops. I am fascinated by the inner workings of living things and I have a very energetic 2 year old daughter called Birdie.

    - How do you create your works?
I get inspiration from everything around me; relationships, new friendships, coversations, emotions, sometimes from a film or book or other images or a random item I might find. I tend to build an image in layers in my head, I think about the emotional response, what i'm saying, and how i need to say it. The materials I choose all have a story or meaning (sometimes very personal, sometimes universal). The model, the making of props and prothesis are all elements of what bring an image to being.

    - What would you like to communicate through your works to the spectator?
I want to communicate emotion through the physical, the experience and emotional response of the viewer is very important to me.

    - What is, today, the role of Photography for you?
I'm not really sure how I feel about photography today. I certainly don't see my self as a photographer. I tend to use photography as another tool to get me the result I want.

Celebrate Memorial Day

Esther Mathis - Photography beyond the thick fog

    Goodmoring dear readers!
Today interview is with a young photographer from Switzerland, now based in Milan. Enjoy it!

    - Can you tell us something about yourself? When did you discover your passion for photography?
When I was 15 years old,I got my first analog reflex camera. And so I started taking pictures, without thinking that it could be a real job. But then many random factors led me to never leave photography, and it has become one of the only constant things in my life.

    - How do you create your works?
I always shoot in analog, mostly in medium format, only the underwater photos were taken with a disposable film camera. Then I scan the slides and create the image I had in my mind. In some cases, there is post-production because my photographs cannot exist in reality, for example the thick, thick fog that envelops everything ... but generally I don’t re-touch that much. I just do the things I would in a darkroom if I were printing in black-and-white.”

    - What are your main sources of inspirations?
My inspirations come primarily from situations and experiences I see; we are a generation waiting to live our lives. We have tremendous expectations, especially because, in theory, everything is possible for us. But it is just as easy to slip out of the system and get lost, if you don’t know what you want.
Anything is possible and so many people don’t know how to handle the responsibility they have towards themselves. The risk of drowning arrives without notice and only we can decide.
Photography is a way to see the world. But it becomes so only when we look at it. And the same thing happens to me with a picture, video or installation. For me they are windows that open other windows inside me. And make me live a moment with the person who lookes it.

    - What are your favourite artists? Why?
    Antony Gourmley
    Hiroshi Sugimoto – Seascapes

Message Banner

I saw this awesome banner for a "Peter Pan" inspired party and I thought it was super fun! Think about all the different messages you could spell out with this type of design! Anything! All you need are some colored paper sheets, scissors, tape and string! I may just use this idea sometime in the very near future as a "Welcome Home Banner"! Happy Wednesday! xoxo, Julie

Dean West - The Image Aesthetic Appeal

Hi Everybody, today we have an interview with Dean West, a young Australian visual artist! Hope you like it!

Dean West was born in a small town of rural Australia in 1983. His love for photography began in the high school and continued at the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia. He graduated with a Bachelor of Photography with majors in visual culture and advertising, and formed a partnership with another photographer, called, Berg+West.

Dean West has spent the past 3 years travelling the globe exhibiting at the world’s most prestigious art fairs. Included in Satchi & Satchi’s collection of the world’s top 100 emerging photographers at Cannes, and present at this past years Venice Arts Festival where he nabbed the acclaimed Arte Laguna Prize. Today he is based in North America following some new projects.

His multilayered images allow viewers to analyze the process of digital photography itself, which incorporates surrealist collaged objects and perfectly manicured poised models caught in mid-air.
As it is easy to understand the post production process is very important to the realisation of his work. All his works start with a pre-visualisation including sketching out the entire concept and knowing exactly where each element will be situated within in each scene.

Than each element is shot in the right perspective and lighting conditions needed for the post production. These two first parts usually last for months and months and only at the end of them the post-production phase begins. This final phase is the way in which the artist give life to his work and he is finally able to give the aesthetic appeal to the image.

Disney World/Universal Studios Luggage Tags

My two favorite people are headed off to Disney World/Universal Studios soon! Lucky!  I know what their favorite rides currently are (Pirates of the Caribbean & Haunted Mansion) and what new ride they are excited to explore (Harry Potter Word), and made luggage tags for them!  I'm taking these, gluing on some white card stock rectangles, and gluing the information card on the back.  Once this is done I'm taking to Kinko's, laminating each, punching a hole on the left side of each one, and tying with a cute ribbon! Hope they like them! Happy Friday! xoxo, Julie
