How to Cut Limes Properly

Limes are a very popular ingredient in many Mexican dishes and drinks (did I hear Margaritas)! However, you would be surprised at the number of people who constantly cut them wrong! There is a proper technique in cutting limes, and the step-by-step how-to is located here: http://cocktails.about.com/od/embellishments/ss/grnsh_lime.htm
Basically, you need to cut off both ends first! Then go from there.
Limes are very popular in foods across the world because of their high acidic content and ability to add a lot of flavor to recipes. They also go way back in history. Columbus brought limes to the Carribean on his second voyage to the New World. They are packed with Vitamin C and were eaten by British sailors on ships to prevent scurvy (lack of Vitamin C). In the 18th century, all British naval ships assigned to long journeys were required to carry limes. The nickname "limeys" for British sailors is still used to this day. See more links about limes below! Happy Thursday! Happy Cinco de Mayo! xoxo, Julie
